Configure a multiple source cockpit

Introduction

This article describes the process of adding a second source system to CXO-Cockpit.

In order to add a new source system, Add New Source System Wizard should be used:

Configuration Steps

Application Adapter

Select if CXO Cockpit runs directly on OLAP (Free Model) or if a Backend System Adapter is needed. When selecting a Backend System Adapter the wizard will automatically create a CXO Fact Database and a CXO Staging Database.

Source System Name

OLAP Connectivity

Select here what OLAP System is used (e.g. Microsoft SQL 2008 or Hyperion Essbase) and specify the OLAP Connection properties. In case of a free model, specify the properties of the existing OLAP environment. In case of using a Backend System Adapter, the connection properties will be used to create the OLAP database automatically.

In the below example a free model (Microsoft Analysis Services) is selected as OLAP System:

After specifying OLAP Connection properties, the following steps need to be fulfilled:

1. Dimension split - is an optional step, used for Free Models that allows you to split an OLAP dimension into two or more CXO-Cockpit dimensions. You can read more details on this concept in the Dimension split article.

2. Dimension mapping - for Source Systems that use a direct (no adapter) connection it is required to setup the Dimension Mapping. The Dimension Mapping maps the Standard CXO-Cockpit Dimensions to the OLAP Dimensions of the Source System. Please follow the link to read more details on Dimension mapping concept.

3. Period Frequency setting - when performing the initial rollout of CXO-Cockpit on free models, you need to define the Period dimension members to be used in cockpit and map them to the parent members of the Period hierarchy. Detailed information on Period Frequency setting procedure can be found in the related article.

4. Dimension Variables setting - in order to make the initial rollout of the cockpit faster, dimension variables need to be defined. By correcting the dimension variable values, every report and template should work correctly. More details can be found in Dimension Variables article.
