Formats (Manage)

Introduction

Formats are reusable building blocks that allow you to define how Lists items and the corresponding numbers or series are displayed and formatted. Depending on the List type certain attributes will be used or not. The following list types support formatting:

When you select to manage the Formats, the list of all available Formats will be opened. From the list, you can see the Name and a Preview of all of them.

At the right side of the screen, you may see the all the details of the Format that you will select. Additionally, here, you may click on the Edit button which will open the Edit Format Screen from where you can change attributes.


Filtering

You can also filter the list by typing the Name of the Format.

Options

The actions that can be performed on a Format by clicking on the Settings button next to the Preview column are Copy and Delete. Copy will Copy the format by adding (Copy) at the end of the Name. Delete is for Deleting the Format.

Create new format

By clicking on the + New Format button, you will open the New Format Window. Here, the Name  of the Format is mandatory field. The Attributes are divided in two groups Font and Charts. All of them are explained below. After the save Button is clicked, the list is avaliable for selecting when creating report.


Attributes

Font Attributes

AttributeDescription
NameThe name should be something that is easy to recognize when building report like: Default_bold_underline
Font SizeThe font size defines the size of the font to be applied, the default Font size is 14 pixels (if a value is not set this will be the default)
Font StyleThe font style can be one of the following: Normal, Bold, Underline and Italic. Combinations are allowed.
Font ColorThe font color defines the color of the text
Background ColorThe backcolor defines the color of the background
ScaleThe scale defines how the numbers should be scaled.
PrecisionDefines the number of decimals used for presenting the number. Options are 0-10.
AligmentDefines how the column header should be aligned horizontally. Options are: Left, Middle, Right. This attribute is only supported for: Columns List.
Vertical AlignmentDefines how the column header should be aligned vertically. Options are: Top, Middle, Bottom. This attribute is only supported for: Columns List.
Spacing

When None is selected: no blank lines will be added
When Before is selected: a blank line above will be added.
When After is selected: a blank line below will be added.
When BeforeAndAfter is selected: blank lines above and below will be added. 

This attribute is only supported for: Rows List

When Thin is selected: a column will be displayed with a thin line on the left side, a row will be displayed with a thin line above the row item

When No is selected: no lines will be displayed for a column or row

When Thick is selected: a column will be displayed with a thick line on the left side, a row will be displayed with a thick line above the row item

Left IndentThe indent attribute defines the number of blank spaces before to put in front of the List Item. This attribute is only supported for: Rows List.

Color Picker

The Color Picker allows you to select any color you would like to assign to a Format.


Example

Below you can find an example of an unformatted report:

Now, let's say, you want to modify this report by adding some formatting. On the example below the following formatting is applied:

  1. For Columns headers - Font color and Back color are modified
  2. For Columns "12 Month Total" and "12 Month Avg" - Font style and Back color are modified
  3. For Rows headers "Gross Sales" and "Gross Margin"  - Font color, Back color, Font Size and Font Style are modified
  4. For Rows "Net Sales, Total", "Gross Margin, Total" - Line Above is applied
  5. For Cost of Goods Sold - Scaling is changed in millions


When making use of linked formats and the linked format needs to be reused, it is possible to make it the same as with shared lists.
