Report Builder

Introduction

The Report Builder has limited permissions in creating reports and can't place them in menu.
Report Builders can build new reports or edit the reports they have created themselves, but only before they are placed in menu. Report Builders can build reports by reusing shared objects, but he can't edit their settings or contents, or creating his own linked objects.

Assign Report Builder Permission

Report Builder permission can be given to a single user or to a group of users.

  • Assign to single user: creating a new user / editing a user, select 'Report Builder' permission in Permissions Tab
  • Assign to a group of users: creating a new users group / editing a user group, select 'Report Builder' permission in Permissions Tab. All users members of the group (or member of user groups which are members of the group) will get Report Builder Permission.

Users who have both Report Builder and Report Admin permissions, will be considered as a Report Admin.

Open Reports Panel for Report Builders

Inside the Open Report Panel the Report Builder will view only part of the existing reports

  • Unpublished Tab: the Report Builder will view only the reports he created. He can edit these reports.
  • Reports by Menu Tab / Reports by Template Tab: the Report Builder will view only the reports he has access to, considering his own Reports Permissions. He can open these reports but he cannot modify them. Both the Report Settings Panel and the Contents Panel will be displayed in read-only mode.

Report Builder can build reports using existing lists or creating Report Lists

When Report Builder builds a new report or edits an unpublished report, as report contents, in the Settings Panel as contents of the report he can:

  • Create a new Report List, which will be used for this report only
  • Reuse a Report List he already created for this report
  • Select an existing Shared Lists. In this case the lists will appear as read-only in the Contents Panel.
  • Create a copy of an existing Shared List, the copy will be created as Report List. To make it in the Select List panel: select the list and click on the arrow in the button 'Use Selected List' the option to create a private copy will appear.

Report Builder can create Drill-lists and Formats

For each Report List, linked to his Report, Report Builder can create specific Linked List (created for the drill-down from a member of that list) and Formats.

Create a Linked List

Double click on the 'Drill' attribute of the list member and select 'New Linked List'.

Create a List Format

List Formats can be created in two ways:

  • Clicking on 'List Formats' in the Contents Panel and then clicking on 'New Format' in the List Formats popup
  • Double clicking on the 'Format' attribute (or 'Header' attribute) of a list member in the Contents Panel and selecting 'Create Linked Format' in the dropdown.

Report Builder can reuse his own previously created lists

When Report Builder creates a copy of his own report lists (but not drill lists), this list will be copied together with all drill lists linked to it. To make the drill list be used in several reports Report Builder should create it on report level first and then copy it in any report he wants.

How Administrator can promote reports

Reports created by Report Builders are visible to Report Admins inside the Unpublished Tab in the Open Report Panel. They will appear grouped under the name of the Report Builder who created them.
Report Admin can publish these reports as all other reports, i.e. selecting the report in the panel, clicking on the gear that will appear and selecting 'Place in Menu' option.

When the report is going to be published by the Admin, there can be decided to keep the report editable for the report builder.

Once the report is published, the Report Builder will be able to view it if he has permission on the report in Reports Permissions and is able to edit the report if given access by the admin.
