Point of View Bar

Introduction

The POV (Point of View) is available in every single report within the CXO-Cockpit. The POV in combination with the variables in the report determine the information you will see in a report. The number and order of dimensions in the POV can be configured for each report.

Change POV

You can easily change dimension members in the POV by clicking on them and choosing the member you want to see. For instance, you can select a different Period or Entity within the POV of a report with just two mouse clicks. Depending on the configuration, the report will be either refreshed immediately after a POV change or after explicitly pressing the refresh-button in the POV bar. In case the second option is applied, after every change a orange refresh button will appear. In order to apply the changes, the user should click on the refresh button to update the POV with the new values.

Limitation

For performance and usability reasons, dimension members in the POV Bar can be limited to certain number of levels.

List In POV Bar

Normally the members available within the POV bar for any chosen dimension are restricted via Security Filters. However it is also possible to restrict the available members by linking a list to the POV dimension in the Report Settings.

POV Search

In order to facilitate finding members that are deep in a structure or not visible due to a level limitation, there is a search button that helps you to find a member (e.g. Entity) quickly.

The search works by finding all members with the entered text included anywhere in either the member name or description, the search results show only the member descriptions. See Screenshot.

Central vs. Initial and Hidden Dimensions

Each dimension can be initialized centrally or initially.

  • When you open a report using central dimensions, it uses the dimensions from the last report you viewed to build the report you are looking at. When you open the report, if your previous report where using dimensions like entity, YTD and period, then the new report would have the same POV bar at the top. If you have just started the reporting session, the default member will be picked. Read more about the POV Default Member Initialization.
  • Initial means that upon opening the report, the dimension is set to a specific initial value. This is normally done for all dimensions not displayed on the report. For example: A report is called "YTD Sales Overview", the View dimension for this report is initially set to YTD and the View dimension is hidden in the POV Bar.

Light User

This User has no full POV access: only Period and Year POV can be changed, all other POV dimensions are frozen in a report. If POV filter prevents access to the POV member, the POV will be frozen on the first accessible member. For more information about POV member initialization, please click here.
