Introduction

The item label is the name of the member as it appears in the report. The item label is created automatically by the system, the administrator can set a free label or customize the automatic label.

To set the item label the admin should click on the Item Label cell in the Contents Panel of the list member for which he wants to set the item label, the 'Set Item Label' window will appear. At the top of it the 'Preview' field shows the label as it will appear in the report.

Set a Custom Label

The admin can set a custom label using the 'Custom Item Label' field.

  • When this field is empty the automatic label will be applied. It is possible to customize the automatic label from the grey are in the window.
  • The admin can insert a free text with the label he wants to use, e.g. "Forecast"
  • The admin can insert one or more values taken from the DB writing them among square brackets. It is possible to mix these values with free text in order to get to the desired result. e.g. "Forecast [YER]" and the final label will appear as "Forecast 2016"

When a custom label is present the settings of the automatic label in the grey area will not be considered by the system.

Set the Label Format

Select the format to apply to the label in the report in the 'Header Format" dropdown. This format will be applied only to the label and not to all the values of the list member.

Customize the Automatic Label

The automatic label settings appear in the grey area in the 'Set item Label' window. In this area a row will appear for each dimension the list is define on.
Customizing the item label is particularly useful when the list is defined on several dimensions.

The automatic settings will be applied only if there is no custom label set, i.e. if the Custom Item Label field is left empty.

The admin can customize the automatic label in several ways:

Exclude some dimensions from the label

The checkbox at the beginning of the dimension row in the grey area defines if the dimension is to be included in the Item Label. The admin can uselect it to exclude a dimension's name from the item label.

Set a Custom Name for some dimensions

A custom label can be set for specific dimensions using the 'Dimension Item Label' field associated to the dimensions in the grey area.
This field behaves as the 'Custom Item Label' field, i.e.

  • When it is empty the default name of the member in the dimension will be used
  • The admin can insert a free text with the label he wants to use, e.g. "Forecast"
  • The admin can insert one or more values taken from the DB writing them among square brackets. It is possible to mix these values with free text in order to get to the desired result. e.g. "Forecast [YER]" and the final label will appear as "Forecast 2016"

Apply a particular format to some dimensions

The admin can set a part of the label to have a particular format, e.g. bold. The admin can set the format of each dimension name in the label through the 'Dimension Format' field.

Change the order in which dimension names appear

The admin can set the order in which dimensions names appear in the automatic label for the entire list from the Create List or Edit List popup. The popup can be opened from the Contents Panel clicking on 'Edit List'.
The admin should drag&drop the dimensions in order to get to the desired order and click save.
